Song Review

The song “Call Me Maybe” is taken from Carly Rae Jepsen’s “EP Curiosty” and her debut album “Kiss”. It was released on 20 and 22 of early 2011 in the Europe and US respectively, and on 20 September, 2011 in Canada through Umbrella Studios, Columbia Records and Richmond Records. It was produced by Josh Ramsay, and written by Ramsay, Carly Rae Jepsen and Tavish Crowe. The song draws influences from disco and dance-pop. The music video was released on 20 October, 2012 that was directed and written by Ben Knechtel. It was the first Carly Rae Jepsen’s song, that was at number 1 on the many music charts including Billboard.

The song received positive reviews from the critics. After 80,000 download in the first week in the United States, it debuted at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. Later it peaked at number 1 for many weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also became “the longest run at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 among female Canadian artists”. It also peaked at number 1 in Italy, France, Denmark, Scotland, Poland and Switzerland. In other countries, it debuted at number 39 at ARIAA charts, at number 97 on the Canadian Hot 100.
