It was produced by Falk and Yacoub, and was written by Carl, Rami and Savan Kotecha. The official music video of the song was released on August 19, 2011, and was directed by John Urbano. The video opens with they hanging out on a Malibu seaside inter break with views of them riding an orange campervan . A few 3 females ties up the group. The group and females are found hanging out a fire , lights sparklers and getting photos.

“What Makes You Beautiful” received positive reviews from the critics. Rober Copsey praising the attractive chorus and summarizing it as “adorable , totally harmless and sure to result in a mix with your friends.
